Domestic workers to get a salary increase

More than one million domestic workers will have their salaries adjusted with effect from 1 December. This year, the minimum wages for domestic workers who work 27 ordinary hours per week or less in Area A is R9.12 per hour, R246.30 per week and R1067.15 per month and for those in Area B it will be R7.60 per hour, R205.52 per week and R890.52 per month.

GDP slows to 2.6%

South Africa's real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) slowed to 2.6 percent quarter-on-quarter in the three months to the end of September 2010, falling below market expectation, said Statistics South Africa (Stats SA).

Reserve Bank cuts rates yet again

Christmas has come early for cash-strapped consumers as the South African Reserve Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) cut the repo rate by 50 basis points to 5.5 percent – the lowest in 30 years.
