The rand was a smidgen firmer but remained range bound in quiet noon trade on Friday with little in the way of fresh news to provide any direction.
At 11.45am the rand was bid at R7.52 to the dollar, R9.33 to the euro and R11.18 to the pound.
"It's very quiet today. We haven't seen much action. The rand is just following the euro. But we have seen a few importers," a local currency trader said.
Dow Jones Newswires reports that currency markets maintained a quiet but bouyant tone in European trading hours on Friday with the euro and sterling holding onto gains while the dollar weakened slightly.
