The rand was a fraction weaker in morning play on Tuesday, tracking a softer euro against the greenback.
At 9.02am the rand was bid at R7.60 to the dollar, R9.30 to the euro and R11.45 to the pound.
A local trader said: "The euro moved overnight, putting the rand under a little bit of pressure, amid dollar strength. That said, we are still in ranges at the moment and need to get through 7.66-68 to get excited."
RMB analysts noted in their morning report that euro/US dollar was under pressure as banks faced the prospect of tighter funding after the ECB's one year emergency funding programme expires on Thursday.
