Eight days before the Fifa kick-off concert at Orlando stadium, the Creative Workers Union and the organising committee are still at odds.
The union is still crying foul over a shortage of “African rhythm” in the line-up.
After punting artists such as Busi Mhlongo, Selaelo Selota, Arno Carstens, HHP and Siphokazi unsuccessfully, the union called on members yesterday to boycott the concert.
CWU president Mabutho Sithole said: “Where are the maskandi, mbaqanga and isicathamiya artists? Grammy award-winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo have not been included.”
The CWU was not appeased by the inclusion of several SA artists, including Hugh Masekela and the Soweto Gospel Choir.
“How do you expect a Sowetan to pay R450 for a ticket? But that’s what you get when a company from LA organises a show in Orlando,” Sithole said of organisers Control Room.
