The latest Volkswagen CrossPolo has been launched in South Africa. The Volkswagen of South Africa manufacturing plant in Uitenhage is the sole producer of the new CrossPolo for global markets and 12 000 will be produced in 2010.
This all-rounder is powered by petrol and diesel engines with a power output of 77 kW. Both engines can be ordered with a 5-speed manual transmission.
The 4x4 lookalike, raised 15 mm higher than a normal Polo - though it's powered by the front wheels only - features an individually styled front apron in anthracite colour with integrated front fog lights and large air inlet at the centre.
The 1.6 four-cylinder, 16-valve engine petrol engine reaches its peak power at 5 250 r/min and torque of 155 Nm at 3 500 r/min. Claimed fuel consumption averages 6.6 litres/100 km and its CO2 value is 157 g/km.
The 1.6 common rail direct-injection turbo-diesel (TDI) engine with particulate filter has 250 Nm of torque which is available between 1 500 to 2 500 r/min.
Its claimed average combined fuel consumption is 4.3 litres/100 km with CO2 emissions of 113 g/km. The CrossPolo TDI engine complies with the Euro-5 emissions standard.
