New Jetta shown in Times Square

Volkswagen has chosen New York's Times Square to unveil its next generation Jetta - and it's bigger and bolder than ever before, and for the first time using different underpinnings to the iconic Golf.

The design projects a more dynamic image than ever before, being based on the styling of the NCC coupe concept car shown at the Detroit Motor Show at the beginning of the year.

This also means that the new Jetta will no longer be sharing any body components with the Golf, rather it will be a vehicle type that is just as independent as a CC or a Tiguan.

The interior has also been redesigned and upgraded, offering more customer choice than before.

It is not yet known when the new Jetta will hit SA as the local company has just announced a raft of new small TSI and TDI engines for the current model. Further changes to the South African Jetta include new exterior colours, interior trim, alloy wheels and standard multi-function steering wheels on all models except in the 1.6 Trendline.

The Jetta currently sold in SA is now assembled at the Volkswagen Puebla plant in Mexico after the Volkswagen of South Africa manufacturing plant in Uitenhage adopted a 2-platform strategy to produce only the new Polo and Polo Vivo.

The model range has also been revised to include Trendline, Comfortline and Highline.
