Yamaha has unveiled a pollution free electric motor scooter that can travel 43 km on a six-hour charge from an ordinary household socket - for a cost of only a few cents.
The company will launch the EC-03 on September 1 in Tokyo, and a month later across Japan, at a price of around R24 000. The new EC-03 is a "zero-emissions" vehicle with a smooth and quiet ride that also allows the rider to enjoy lightweight manoeuvrability and a slim design not found in conventional 50cc scooters.
It features a new high energy density 50V lithium-ion battery manufactured by Sanyo and Yamaha Motor's exclusive super-slim Yamaha integrated power unit.
Range is 43km at 30km/h on a flat road, more than enough for short-range transportation needs in the urban environment.
This new model also features plug-in recharging from a household electrical outlet, a lightweight aluminum alloy frame and other features to ensure the high level of functionality and convenience.
