Audi's fastest open top production car, the Audi R8 Spyder, has landed in South Africa, priced at over R2m and available with a massive V10 engine and the choice of either manual or R tronic transmission.
The Spyder V10 is powered by the same 5 204 cc V10 engine as in the coupé. Power output is rated at 386 kW at 8 000 r/min and torque peak of 530 Nm at 6 500 r/min.
Against the clock the Spyder manual can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.1 sec with a top speed of 313 km/h. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via the quattro all-wheel drive system.
The Spyder gets a classic fabric hood that can open and close in 19 seconds with one touch function and an engine compartment lid in carbon fibre with large aluminium air outlets. The hood can open at up to 50 km/h, with a space-saving innovative double Z fold, while its three-layered design provides excellent sound and heat insulation.
