Twelve die in KZN crash

Twelve people died in a collision between a minibus taxi and a truck near Vryheid on Tuesday, KwaZulu-Natal transport MEC Willies Mchunu says.

They died on the scene. Three people were taken to Vryheid hospital with serious injuries, he said.

"It is alleged that the truck driver experienced brake failure, causing him to lose control of the truck and colliding head on with an oncoming taxi," Mchunu said in a statement.

The accident happened at 1.30pm on the R34 in the Ngome area, near Vryheid.

Expressing sadness at the loss of lives, Mchunu said he would visit the survivors in hospital on Wednesday.
