Turkish riot police have used tear gas and water jets on hundreds of anti-International Monetary Fund demonstrators in central Istanbul.
It was the second day in a row that police used force to disperse demonstrations targeting the IMF and the World Bank's annual meetings in the city.
Security forces moved against the crowd of about 300 people -- mostly youths from leftist and anarchist groups -- as soon as they started to march from the downtown neighbourhood of Sisli to the nearby convention centre where the meetings were held.
"IMF, get out! This world is ours," the demonstrators chanted as they unfurled a large banner reading "Long live revolution." Police chased the protesters into side streets and detained
several of them.
On Tuesday, about 100 people were taken in custody after a rally organised by trade unions. Protesters hurled petrol bombs and stones at the police and broke shop windows.
