No ipad for SA

South Africa will not receive the Apple iPad on its scheduled release date, 3 April.

Local consumers will not get their hands on it anytime soon, as Apple says SA will only receive the tablet later this year, with no specified date.

The iPad will be released in the US on 3 April. Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK will receive it in late April.

Apple says the “iPad will ship in additional countries later this year” and this includes SA.

Alan Hely, senior director of corporate communications, Apple Europe, says the company has no further information to share regarding Apple's release in SA at this point in time.

“iPad is something completely new,” says Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. “We're excited for customers to get their hands on this magical and revolutionary product, and connect with their apps and content in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before.”

Jobs unveiled the iPad in late January.
