More tickets go on sale

Additional tickets is for sale for the two World Cup semi-final and final matches, Fifa says.

"About 900 premier tickets, going for R4900 each are already available," Fifa spokesman Pekka Odriozola told a media briefing in Johannesburg. Another 1000 tickets, between category one and three, would go on sale from 6pm on Sunday for the matches between Uruguay and the Netherlands in Cape Town, and between Germany and Spain in Durban.

"We also have a few hundred tickets for the final, which will be available from 2pm today."

As First National Bank branches were closed on Sunday, tickets could be bought via the Fifa website on www.fifa.com, Fifa ticket centres, or the Fifa call centre on 083-123-2010.

Odriozola said Fifa was impressed with the number of people who had attended fan festivals in South Africa and internationally.

"Last night we surpassed the two million mark in South Africa," he said.

"In total we have over 4.6 million fans that have gone to international and South African fan festivals."

Local Organising Committee spokesman Rich Mkhondo said former president Nelson Mandela's attendance at the World Cup final had not been confirmed. "Mandela has an open invitation to attend any matches he wants to attend ... If he comes, we will be very happy," said Mkhondo. "We will hear from him if he comes, but we have nothing new to announce on the matter."
