The Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU) Monday announced the 5 000 tickets available through Computicket outlets in Soweto for the historic Tri-Nations Test between the Springboks and the All Blacks on August 21 have been sold out.
The tickets to the Test at the National Stadium went on sale at 9am on Monday morning and were sold out in a matter of hours.
"It's truly great to see tickets to this Test selling out in such a short period of time," said André Homan, commercial manager of the GLRU. "Within just two days, the first phase of 45,000 tickets sold out. The next phase of 5 000 tickets, which went on sale in Soweto on Monday, were completely sold out in a few hours.
"The success of these sales has far exceeded our wildest expectations, but we are thrilled at what initially seemed like a risk has turned into an astronomical success."
Homan advised that an announcement about a possible third phase of tickets would be made in the next few days."We're just waiting to see how many tickets allocated to various stake holders will be returned. At the moment, we have a long waiting list and after catering for those people and if there are tickets left, they will be put up for sale," said Homan.
