Serena Williams and Justine Henin will face each other on Saturday in the final of the Australian Open tennis tournament after they dispatched two Chinese contenders this morning.
Serena played the first of the semi-finals in Melbourne this morning and needed just two sets to move on to Saturday’s match. It was not all one-way traffic, however, with Na Li taking each set into a tie-break.
Serena’s first serve was too strong for Li and she dominated both tie-break games for the victory. The match lasted just over two hours and the final game, which went 7-1 in the American’s favour, set the stage for what quickly became a rout in the second semi-final of the day.
Henin needed just 51 minutes to destroy Jie Zheng, 6-1, 6-0. The year’s comeback queen dominated all aspects of the game and ensured her place in the final with 23 winners on the day. Zheng only managed three in the match.
