India ends the day 46 runs ahead

big_image165 runs by Virender Sehwag and 106 by Sachin Tendulkar saw India firmly in the lead by the end of day two of the second Test in Kolkata at 342 for five.

Sehwag was in top form today, taking only 174 balls for his score. He offered some chances to the Proteas throughout the innings, but finally fell to the man who dropped him on 47 in the slips. JP Duminy bowled only one over today, but claimed the wicket of Sehwag.

The other spinner in the side, Paul Harris, struggled with his line and bowled twelve wides as umpire Ian Gould saw the deliveries outside of the batsmen’s leg stump as negative. Harris did get the wicket of Tendulkar in the end.

Dale Steyn finally came to the party late in the day, bowling Subramaniam Badrinath for his first wicket of the innings.

South Africa needs a good day tomorrow with the world’s number one spot in Test cricket hanging in the balance. A victory in the match will see India keep their number one ranking.
