Rain delays start of first Test

The covers are still on in Port of Spain where the first Test against South Africa and the West Indies was supposed to start more than an hour ago.

Rain stopped play from starting this morning and even the toss has not taken place as yet. At the last look, it was not raining anymore, but it is still gloomy and wet patches (inside the 30m circle) are visible to the eye. The supersopper is hard at work at this stage.

With the wet weather there should be some support to the fast bowlers today, although the wicket helped the spinners in the shorter format of the game.

The forecast is not good and more rain is expected until Sunday.

South Africa enters the series after winning both the T20 matches and all five of the ODIs against the West Indies on the tour.

With an even stronger side playing in the Test series, there can be little doubt that they are the favourites to win the Test series as well.

South Africa (probable): 1 Graeme Smith (captain), 2 Alviro Petersen, 3 Jacques Kallis, 4 AB de Villiers, 5 Hashim Amla, 6 Ashwell Prince, 7 Mark Boucher, 8 Paul Harris, 9 Dale Steyn, 10 Morne Morkel, 11 Lonwabo Tsotsobe
West Indies: 1 Chris Gayle (captain), 2 Travis Dowlin, 3 Shivnarine Chanderpaul, 4 Darren Bravo, 5 Brendan Nash, 6 Dwayne Bravo, 7 Denesh Ramdin, 8 Darren Sammy, 9 Shane Shillingford, 10 Kemar Roach, 11 Ravi Rampaul.
