Johannesburg has the best tap water

The department of water affairs has rated the tap water in Johannesburg as the best in the country.

In its annual Blue Drop certification, the department indicated that a total of 66 water supply systems have been awarded the prestigious Blue Drop Certificates for the 2010/2011 assessment period. This is an increase of 74% from the 38 systems that received blue drop awards in 2010.

The certification programme is a flagship innovation by the department to improve municipal drinking water quality which has been embraced by Johannesburg Water.

The City of Johannesburg performed extremely well to claim the number one spot following the rigorous testing process ahead of all other metros and local authorities in the country. This achievement follows hot on the heels of the 2010 FIFA Blue Drop Certification just before the 2010 World Soccer Cup.

Johannesburg remains one of the few big cities in the world where you can drink water right from the tap.
