Germany thrashes Argentina in Cape Town

AFPA three-goal second half blitz saw Germany score an emphatic 4-0 win over Argentina in the World Cup quarter final at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

After Germany led 1-0 at the break they added three more in grand style as the second half wore on to secure their semi-final berth.

Germany's slick passing game was hugely impressive straight from the kick-off and almost effortlessly they moved the ball from deep options to the fringes of the Argentina penalty area where invariably they were blocked by the defence.

This early show of penetration by Germany didn't pose any real danger but 'Die Mannschaft" shocked friend and foe alike with a well-taken third minute goal, courtesy of a header by Thomas Mueller who steered home a 35-metre free-kick from his Bayern
Munich team mate Bastian Schweinsteiger (1-0).

This early goal upped the match considerably and play swung like a pendulum from one end of the field to the other, with half chances abounding for both sides.

As Argentina went in search for the equaliser they turned to their 'World Player of The Year' Lionel Messi to play a saviour's role and channelled most of their possession in his direction. But the German defence kept a close watch on him and he had little or no room to move.

Messi did, however, have two chances to stamp his mark on the match but he failed to find the touch that has made him the world's most expensive player as his both his free-kick attempts came to nought.
