109 not out from 102 balls by Abdul Razzaq saw South Africa lose their first match against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi last night. Pakistan won the match by one wicket with one ball to spare.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first. Their 286 for eight in 50 overs seemed to be a defendable score throughout the match, especially after Pakistan's poor performances with the bat in the previous matches of the series.
Hashim Amla made 65 and Chris Ingram made his second ton in this format of the game to have South Africa on course for 300 late in the innings, but quick wickets at the tail end (including a run out) saw the Proteas fall short of the magic number.
Pakistan lost Asad Shafiq early in the innings, but Mohammad Hafeez (30), Fawad Alam (48) and Shahid Afridi (49) kept the team in the running.
Despite three run outs, Razzaq kept his cool and the winning runs were struck with only one ball to spare.
The series is now tied at one match apiece and the next match between the two countries is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
