Equatorial Guinea will defend their CAF African Women’s Championship against the Super Falcons of Nigeria on Sunday after they walloped Banyana Banyana 3-1 in the semi-final match on Thursday.
Banyana will now fight for the third sport against Cameroon on Sunday, while Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea will battle it out for continental supremacy at Daveyton’s Sinaba stadium.
The host nation lost concentration in the second half of the extra time following sloppy defence by Janine van Wyk in the 103th minute.
The defence continued to put more pressure on the home team, with a counterattack that saw another Banyana defender, Simphiwe Dludlu, scoring an own goal.
A few minutes later, Banyana defence left Salimata Simpore unmarked, and she easily scored the third goal for her team.
South Africa’s consolation goal came through 22-year-old Amanda Dlamini in the dying minutes of the match.
By reaching the finals, Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria will both represent the African continent at the FIFA Women’s World cup in Germany next year. - BuaNews
