A strong performance by the South African seam attack and three wickets by Imran Tahir has the home side fighting back before the start of day three of the second Test against Australia in Johannesburg.
Graham Smith had to face just four balls late yesterday afternoon before play was suspended as a Highveld storm hit the Wanderers. But before the South African captain went in to bat, Australia collapsed yet again in a series that saw the bowlers (of both sides) have the upper hand.
The visitors were 174 without loss, chasing down South Africa’s modest 266. But in just more than 120 runs, all the Australians were back in the pavilion. Dale Steyn claimed four for 64 and Tahir’s three wickets cost 55. Steyn was unlucky not to grab another five wicket haul.
The Australians are 30 runs ahead after making 296 in their first innings.
More storms are expected this afternoon and Windguru predicts quite a downpour after 17:00 in Johannesburg. There are still three days left in the Test however, and a result remains likely even if it rains again this afternoon.
